Christophe Guiraud

A composer and sound artist, Christophe Guiraud is dedicated to the realms of contemporary music and sound art. His primary goal is to delve into the crossroads of electronic, generative, and written music.

Christophe draws inspiration from two distinct influences,

Ars Subtilior from the 14th century and Noise,

akin to two intertwining rivers that manifest in his

powerful compositions.

With several years of collaboration, he actively engages

with numerous European ensembles and musicians, including

Ensemble 21, Ensemble La Grive, Ensemble Ictus, Ensemble Tarentule, PHØNIX16 collective, Laps Ensemble, Game Ensemble, Nemø Ensemble, STOOM, Julien Boutonnier, Benjamin Glorieux, David Ryan, Tom Pauwels, André-Marc Delcourt, George Van Dam, Arçon de Nièze, among others.

His works have been featured at the Ars Musica festival in Brussels and released on various music labels.

Writing for strings has always been incredibly gripping, transcendent, for my body/heart, something “beyond” reveals itself, tears apart the real state of things, of matter, but amplifies the expressive state of this utopia (write for strings), transparent and on the verge of disappearing. Such a clear and impregnable message. To seek a kind of offering towards an unknown territory, and thus bring it back to reality. The sound power of these instruments will always surpass time.

MENACE is about ecology, where the Ars subtilior blends with electronic materials made of field recordings and oscillator articulations. Spectral writing, therefore, serves as a “binder” to various sonic and textural phenomena. This piece acts as an organic mass almost imitating the event that causes various varieties of flora to grow and flower. In a certain wild gesture, organic movements and hallucinations emerge to the surface, mirages, blurs, and sharpness burst forth. Like a world, henceforth, that could almost never come back.
